George B. Dowsman letters, 1862.

The letter dated 3 September 1862 is from Dowsman to his sister, Mary E. Bickle. In it, he tells of the panic in Louisville, Kentucky from the anticipated attack by General Bragg. He also complains of the lack of leadership in the Union Army in Kentucky. In the letter 23 October 1862, he writes from Frankfort, Kentucky, and describes the destruction of farmland due to the war.

George B. Dowsman was probably born in Ohio around 1842. In 1850, he was living in Huntington, Indiana, and later moved to Plymouth, Marshall County where he enlisted in August, 1862, as a private in Company H of the 75th Indiana Regiment.
